Complete Stucco Refinishing
Complete Stucco Refinishing is a service that we provide to restore the beauty of your home’s exterior. Over time, stucco can deteriorate due to environmental factors such as sun exposure and weathering. One way this happens is by perking up (blistering), which occurs when water gets trapped in between layers of stucco.
What are the various options in complete stucco refinishing?
There are three options available for stucco refinishing. They all involve applying a new layer of coating to the existing surface.
The first option is to apply an impenetrable barrier that will protect your newer layers from moisture seepage. This can be done with either aluminum or plastic sheets that serve as barriers against moisture penetration by laminating water-repellent coatings on the surface. The downside to this approach is that it can lead to increased heat gain in your house, which could be an issue if you live in a warm climate and don’t have air conditioning.
The second option is to apply thick coats of mortar over the existing stucco. This is done by troweling a new layer of mortar over the surface and then smoothing it out with what’s called a “wallboard knife.” The downside to this approach is that it requires an experienced or qualified mason while also being more time-consuming than other methods.
The third option for fixing stucco is to brush on a new mortar coat over the old one. This process, called “topping out” or “tuck-pointing,” can be done by anyone who has ever troweled concrete before and doesn’t require much skill at all.
When should I get complete stucco refinishing?
In general, it’s best to get complete stucco refinishing when the house has been completely remodeled and if you want your exterior appearance look fresh. However, this isn’t necessarily a perfect rule of thumb. If there are visible cracks in the mortar joints or deep scratches on the surface of the stucco then complete refinishing is probably necessary.
What is the best way to maintain my stucco after the complete stucco refinishing?
The best way to maintain the stucco is by periodically applying a sealant. The purpose of this product is to adhere to and protect the surface from water, salt, oil-based products, car exhaust fumes and airborne pollutants. There are many different brands on the market but most experts recommend using an aluminum oxide or magnesium silicate based sealant.
Generally, these products are applied by sprayer or brush and they come in a variety of colors. The sealant should also be reapplied as soon as possible if the stucco is exposed to harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, sleet, hail or excessive high winds. It’s recommended that you apply an oil-based sealant to the surface of your stucco if you live in an area that has frequent rain
How do I know I am choosing the right stucco company for the job?
Choosing the right stucco company can be a difficult task. Whether you need your home’s exterior to look different or want it restored, there are many factors that go into choosing which contractor is best for you. It’s important to find someone who will give you personalized attention and respond quickly if anything goes wrong on their end so that you can get your stucco fixed as soon as possible. That’s why you need to call our skilled professionals at Largo Stucco and Stonework as we go above and beyond to exceed our customers expectations.
But how do you know if they're the right company for you? Here are some questions that will help narrow down which contractor is a good match:
- Is this a small project or large one? This question is important because it’s recommended to hire a general contractor
- for a large project and an individual contractor for smaller ones.
- What’s your budget? A less expensive company may not give you the same quality as some of the more costly stucco contractors but could still be right for you depending on what your needs are.
- Do they offer any guarantees or warranties? This is also important because the company should know what they’re doing to warrant giving a guarantee or warranty that you can trust.
- Do you have any design ideas? This is important because it’s hard for most contractors to come up with an idea on the spot and will require more time than usual.
- How long has this company been in business? A newer company may not have the experience of a more established company.
Why Would Pick Stucco?
Stucco is one of the most versatile building materials in construction because it can be used to cover a variety of different surfaces. It was originally created by using wet, slaked lime as its key ingredient, but now also includes Portland cement and sand-lime mixes that are mixed with water.
